Overview
Fundeser is a Nicaraguan microfinance institution that provides loans to micro and small businesses, with a presence in 14 of the country's 17 departments and more than half of its portfolio in rural areas. Its website ran on a 2018 WordPress install that was never updated: it loaded slowly, showed a loading screen, its styles kept breaking, and publishing news was a hassle. On top of that, technical errors kept Google from indexing all of its pages.
Through TecnoTool, the company I work for, I led the migration alongside a backend developer. I chose Astro and Strapi to keep JavaScript and CSS to a minimum, partially redesigned the pages on a stable design system while keeping the original identity, and built the CMS connection and its custom blocks. In 8 weeks the site went to a 1.1 s load time, a 96 Lighthouse performance score, every page indexed, and about 400 users a month.
